The Long Lake Walleye Enhancement Project was a collaborative effort between Watersheds Canada and the Long Lake Property Owner’s Association. The project aimed to enhance two walleye spawning beds. Despite initial challenges, the team persevered and successfully enhanced the beds. The project demonstrates the impact of community-driven initiatives.
Melissa and Terry discuss the Long Lake Walleye Enhancement project at Lake Links 2019. Over 50 volunteers convened the morning of February 2, 2019 with ATVs, snowmobiles, trailers, tractors and sleds. And one at a time the excavator loaded the washed stone and the volunteers transported it to the spawning beds and waiting volunteers, who dumped and spread out the stone according to the plan. This entire project would not have been possible without the support of the Long Lake Property Owner’s Association, Sharbot Obaadjiwan First Nation, 1st Drummond Scouts, Nedow Constr. Ltd. and Watersheds Canada. Special thanks to Fisheries and Oceans Canada – Recreational Fisheries Conservation Partnerships Program for their financial support.
