This is a handout from our webinar, "Ice fishing: How to prepare for a safe and enjoyable day of winter angling". Ice fishing is the practice of catching fish through holes drilled in the ice of standing bodies of water. It can be a great way to introduce kids to fishing. To ensure a safe and enjoyable outing, check the ice thickness and use GPS to navigate. Implement responsible fish handling and stay warm.
Ice fishing offers a unique opportunity to experience and appreciate our waterways. During this webinar, Erin Isfeld-Reynolds, Director of the grassroots group Female Anglers of Manitoba, will discuss practical tips to help you prepare for a fun, family-friendly ice fishing outing. The presentation will emphasize keeping safety and respect for our natural resources at the forefront. Erin Isfeld-Reynolds is a lifelong multispecies angler, waterfowl hunter and outdoor enthusiast who loves to encourage people (especially women and kids) to use fishing as a tool for exploring the outdoors and building self-confidence. Erin’s favourite adventures have always been centered around camping and fishing with her family and friends. Ensuring that our natural spaces can be enjoyed for generations to come is very important to Erin, and she enjoys educating people on the proper practices to ensure released fish have their best chance of survival, and fish kept for food are harvested using ethical practices.
